Nov. 9, 2016 (Hagåtña) – The results of yesterday’s elections are out. While we lost some great Republicans, we gained some new faces across the board, from mayors’ offices to the Legislature. Governor Calvo released the following statement:
The men and women who put their hearts out there this election season are to be commended. Holding political office is tough. Running for political office, especially if you are the newcomer and challenging incumbents, can be tougher. You have a short amount of time to share your views and your goals with more than 50,000 voters. And we have quite a number of newcomers. I’d like to congratulate all of the candidates on a job well done and welcome those who are new to elected office.
That’s the beauty of a democratic government. People who want to make a difference are able to throw their hat in the ring and share their dreams of what Guam could be and their role in making that happen.
The people have spoken and the election reflects their will to see change. We must focus on working together towards solutions that move our island forward. We must continue to move away from the politics of old.
As we have before, we will call on all of the elected leaders, reaching across the aisle to work with mayors, the Legislature, and our Congresswoman, to be a part of the solution that moves our island forward and lifts our people to their greatest potential. We look forward to working with you all! Biba Guam!
