Governor Eddie Baza Calvo has proclaimed a state of mourning for the island of Guam on the passing of former Mayor Connie Duenas. The former Mayor passed away on January 4, 2018. Flags will be flown at half-staff until the day of her interment.

As the first woman to join the Guam Police Department, this mother of four, grandmother of 10, and great grandmother of 8 great grandchildren, the former mayor had a fearlessness that was balanced with compassion for others.

Governor Eddie Calvo and Lt. Governor Ray Tenorio expressed their condolences to her family and invite the island community to pray that they find peace in this time of mourning.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mayor Connie Duenas who was a leader of this community as well as a dear friend. Christine and I pray for Juan, and their children Kathy, Eleanor, Yvonne and John, and everyone in the family,” Governor Calvo stated.

“I am heartbroken at this loss. Mayor Connie has made great contributions to our island, she was a dear friend, and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to know her and learn from her,” Lt. Governor Ray Tenorio added.
