Hagåtña – Thousands of residents and our island’s visitors attended the opening ceremony for Guam’s 74th Liberation Festivities last night!
Governor Eddie Calvo and First Lady Christine Calvo were joined by Archbishop Michael Byrnes, 74th Liberation Queen Kamarin Nelson, the Phoenix Stage Band, and the island community.
“Today, and throughout this Liberation celebration, our community remembers the enduring strength of our people. As we begin, I want to take the time to recognizes our vendors, our volunteers, and all those who are responsible for this year’s celebration. Their efforts ensured our island traditional, annual celebration continues,” said First Lady Christine Calvo, Honorary Chairperson of Liberation Festivities as she opened the ceremony with her remarks.
“I want to tell you how much of an honor it is to serve a most wonderful and beautiful people, the people of Guam. So tonight we celebrate 74 years of freedom, and our Liberation. Biba Liberation! Biba Guam!” said Governor Eddie Baza Calvo.
First Lady Christine Calvo also surprised everyone by singing “You light up my life,” a song she sang back when she was 15 years old on the Paseo grounds.

July 11 – July 22: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily
July 20 – July 21: 5p.m. to 11 p.m.
