Hagåtña — As the Legislature recesses again from addressing the fiscal crisis, the executive branch continues to make cuts.

Deeper cuts are being made across the board at agencies this week to include a 32-hour work-week for Adelup senior staff members.

Governor Calvo announced last week that everything is on the table when it comes to cuts. Without the ability to furlough expeditiously, the Governor must make cuts to services rather than personnel.

“We want to announce to the community the following cuts in services — in advance, so they can best prepare for impacts to their family life,” according to the Governor’s Spokesperson Oyaol Ngirairikl.

The following services will cease operations until funding is available:

Closures effective this Saturday, March 17, 2018:

1. Hagåtña and Dededo Pools
2. Dept. of Parks & Recreation Sports facilities will be closed in the evenings – Tiyan ball fields, Dededo Sports Complex, Adelup field (front lawn), Paseo Stadium, Guerrero Field
3. Public Parks managed by the Dept. of Parks & Recreation will shut off lights in the evenings

In addition to the cuts above, the administration is looking at immediately terminating leases at agencies such as the Department of Chamorro Affairs, Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities Agency (CAHA), and the Guam Museum. The Governor’s Office is actively looking for public office space to relocate employees, storage facilities, and taking over museum operations.

In the coming week, the Administration will be looking at deeper cuts to include disconnecting streetlights as well as suspending private school busing.
