Hagåtña – While Guam Memorial Hospital staff attempt to address multiple facets of the challenges they face some senators were particularly critical but failed to provide solutions.
At today’s budget hearing for GMH, Senator Mike San Nicolas berated management officials stating “a ton of employees … get pulled in to save the day.”
San Nicolas was referring to GMH’s management decision to tap into their own subject matter experts.
We beg to differ Senator.
GMH’s Chief Financial Officer Benita Manglona fired back at Senator San Nicolas, “I know you sit up there very powerful and you try to shut me down. … And it was leadership that asked Paula to create that team with the meaningful use, we recognize. … We know what we need, so please stop berating us here.”
The subject matter experts, nurses and doctors, are ultimately the end-users of the operational systems within GMH. We believe it is a good business practice to pull them in as participants during the research and vetting process in search of a better system for our island’s lone public hospital, because after all, the subject matter experts would know which system would suit the needs of the hospital best.
