Hagåtña, Guam – Governor Lou Leon Guerrero issues the following statement regarding the announcement of the use of Section 2808 authority and military construction funding to support the Trump Administration’s border wall project.
“Joint Region Marianas (JRM) Rear Admiral John Menoni has assured me that the recent announcement by the Secretary of Defense regarding the diversion of local military construction funds will not affect the U.S. Marine Corps relocation and force flow of approximately 5,000 Marines to Guam. He has advised me that JRM is committed to supporting the relocation of the Marine Corps forces to Guam, in keeping with the agreement between the Governments of Japan and the United States. I have also been advised by Rear Admiral Menoni that the announcement does not change what is planned for the relocation of Marines and it does not affect our timelines, nor will it impact military operations on Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, or the Federated States of Micronesia. Admiral Menoni and I will continue to work closely together on military information that may impact our community—the One Guam community.”
