Hagåtña, Guam – Governor Lou Leon Guerrero issues the following statement on the anticipated passing of the FY 2022 Budget Reconciliation Package, which would provide additional federal funding for a new hospital.

“I appreciate the concerted effort being made in Congress to secure additional funding for the construction of a new hospital on Guam. When I met with the Chairman of the Natural Resource Committee Raul Grijalva on July 27, he specifically assured me that he would include funding in the Reconciliation Package for Guam’s hospital as well as other territories in the insular areas. I thank him for his commitment and passion to help the people of Guam. Chairman Grijalva has been a longstanding advocate and ally. I am glad to see the progress being made in the Committee on Natural Resources, particularly as markups continue on the FY 2022 Budget Reconciliation,” said Governor Leon Guerrero.

“In all my discussions with the White House, Congress, and federal Cabinet officials, there is a national commitment to eliminate healthcare disparities in the territories. The funding to help construct the new hospital is welcome news as we all work to deliver quality healthcare our people deserve. I look forward to working closely with the Biden Administration, our federal counterparts, Congressional leaders, and all who hold a special place for Guam.”
