Hagåtña, Guam – Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio issued the following joint statement on the report of a magnitude 6.8 earthquake that struck this morning in the southeastern Taitung county of the Republic of China (Taiwan):

“The Island of Guam is deeply saddened by the devastating earthquake that occurred in the Republic of China (Taiwan) this morning. We send our deepest condolences to all those who lost a loved one or saw their homes and businesses destroyed. Our Administration is monitoring developments to assess our options to help those most affected and those responding. Guam remains a close and enduring friend to the resilient people of Taiwan, and we will be there in the aftermath of this tragedy. May God protect all emergency crews and ongoing response efforts.”
