Hagåtña, Guam – With approximately 8,500 tax refunds in the mail today, covering filers from April 1st through April 15th , the Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration has paid all ‘Status A’ refunds for a total of $144 million fiscal year to date. This total is $29 million more than this same time last fiscal year and more than two weeks ahead of the court-ordered deadline of October 15, 2019.

The increase in total refunds paid is attributed, in part, to nearly 4,000 additional returns processed as compared to last year. Also noteworthy is that the amount of tax refund dollars paid from Section 30 funds is $10 million less than last year, allowing for Section 30 money to be dedicated to other funding priorities.

The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration accomplished this goal through increased collection and enforcement efforts, and effective cash management.

“Today, Josh and I met our government’s tax refund obligation to the people of Guam. While we are proud to have paid these refunds ahead of schedule, our goal is to do even better next year. I want to thank our Fiscal Discipline team and the men and women who worked hard to get these refunds in the mail,” said Governor Leon Guerrero.
