The Hagatna Public Library will host a reading of new Chamorro language children’s book, Ma Guaiya Yu’, si Nana yan si Tata
The Guam Public Library System is pleased to announce a special reading of the recently released Chamorro Language children’s book, Ma Guaiya Yu’, si Nana yan si Tata (Grandma and Grandpa Love Me) at the Nieves M. Flores Memorial Library in Hagatna on Saturday, April 2, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
In the Chamorro culture, grandparents play an important role in the raising of children. Sisters-in-law Simone and Dana Bollinger captured this special relationship in their book. Ma Guaiya Yu’, si Nana yan si Tata is a vibrant picture book featuring lovely watercolor illustrations by Cielo de los Reyes that depict the many ways grandparents show their love to their children – from holding hands in church to going on hikes in the jungle, and much more. Ma Guaiya Yu’, si Nana yan si Tata is written entirely in the Chamorro language with repetitive phrases, making it easy and fun for adults and children to learn Chamorro together.
The book reading will feature a special presentation by the authors and illustrator, followed by arts and crafts activities. The books will be available for sale at $12 per book.
