Hagåtña, Guam – The Governor’s School Opening Readiness Team (SORT) is making significant progress in preparing Inarajan Middle School for an upcoming inspection by public health officials later this week. The Governor’s SORT has been working every day, including weekends, to ensure the school is up to safety codes and ready to achieve a passing grade.
“Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and educators is our top priority,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “We recognize the urgency of addressing the maintenance issues at Inarajan Middle School, and I commend our SORT team for their tireless efforts to ensure the campus is ready for our students as quickly as possible.”
“The Governor’s SORT continues to work every day, including through the weekends, because we understand the importance of getting our schools ready for the return of students and staff. We will not rest until our schools are safe, clean, and equipped to provide the best possible learning environment for our children in the south,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “And again, we must stress the need for the Guam Department of Education (GDOE) to provide continued maintenance to keep the facility safe for our students.”
The Governor’s SORT is addressing the removal of old AC ducts, removal of ceiling and floor tiles, structural repairs to the gymnasium, the installation of new split unit ACs, installation of plexiglass partitions, general electrical repairs around campus, and painting. Additionally, the school’s sewer and water line needs to be scoped and snaked.
The Governor’s SORT at Inarajan Middle School includes the Guam Waterworks Authority, the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Port Authority of Guam, the Department of Land Management, the Guam Energy Office, the Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center, the Department of Agriculture, the Guam Contractors Licensing Board, the Guam Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Corrections, and the Guam Memorial Hospital who are working alongside the GDOE facilities and maintenance team.
Since the establishment of the Governor’s SORT over a month ago, the initiative has supported the reopening of J.M. Guerrero Elementary School, Finegayan Elementary School, D.L. Perez Elementary School, Machanaonao Elementary School, Ordot Chalan Pago Elementary School, Price Elementary School, J.Q. San Miguel Elementary School, P.C. Lujan Elementary School, Jose Rios Middle School, Vicente Benavente Middle School, George Washington High School, and Okkodo High School.
