Calvo leading recovery effort, Guam Returns to COR 4
JIC Release No. 9
Storm Update: July 30, 2014
Guam has returned back to Condition of Readiness 4. The Governor directed the Emergency Operations Center and the Joint Information Center to transition all planning and resources to recovery efforts. The Governor has three main goals:
1. Make sure families have homes to go back to.
2. Restore utilities and resume government operations.
3. Lead Guam’s quick bounce from the storm and get the message out that Guam is open for business.
Planning is underway now with the EOC, the JIC, and federal and private sector partners. Much more information on this will be coming to you tonight.
The government of Guam will be open tomorrow morning.
Joint Region Marianas, Naval Base Guam and Andersen Air Force will resume normal operations tomorrow morning. JRM requests all personnel to report back to duty as scheduled.
Please use caution when traveling to worksites due to possible fallen trees and flooded areas.
The decision to revert to COR4 was coordinated between Governor Eddie Baza Calvo and Rear Admiral Tilghman Payne, Commander of Joint Region Marianas. The timing of the COR 4 declaration was also dependent on the most recent forecast information, which tracks Tropical Storm Halong’s passage away from.
Recovery operations are underway to return Guam to normal. This includes clearing debris, restoring power services, and re-opening businesses. Stay tuned for information from the JIC on these and other recovery activities.
Call the Joint Information Center at 478-0208 for more information.
