Micro-Grant for Food Security Project Application Period Opens on May 11

Hagåtña, Guam – The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration announces the availability of grant funding for Guam’s farmers through the 2021/2022 Micro-Grant for Food Security Project (MGFSP), as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen food security for Guam. Administered by the Guam Department of Agriculture (DOAG), the application period opens on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 and closes at 5 p.m. on June 24, 2022. Projects are subject to approval under U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) program criteria.

“This is the second year our administration has made grant funding available to our island’s farmers. Strengthening our agriculture industry will go a long way toward supporting our food security and providing sustainable nutrition for Guam’s families,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “There is $5,000 per award available for eligible farmers to utilize on one-year projects including building greenhouses and gardens, and fencing property to protect crops.”

“As we work on Guam’s recovery, rebuilding our economy must include refining how we prepare for future emergencies,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “Through the fruit of our farmers’ labor, this funding will help increase the quantity and quality of locally grown food, and enhance food security for at-risk and underserved members of our community.”

Applications will be reviewed and ranked by an independent committee. Funding priority will be given to Bona Fide Farmers and first-time applicants for this grant cycle. Applicants must have an updated Bona Fide Farmer’s certificate and a registered DUNS number.
