Commercial Farmers Grant Program Offers Relief to Strengthen Agriculture

Hagåtña, Guam – The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration announces the opening of the Commercial Farmers Grant Program (CFGP) today. Administered by the Guam Economic Development Authority (GEDA), this new program provides recovery support to local farmers and the agriculture industry. The application period closes on May 20, 2022, at 5 p.m.

“This program provides up to $15,000 to assist farmers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, encourages commercial producers to expand operations, and supports the robust recovery of the local agriculture industry,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “Our administration is fully committed to ensuring Guam’s farmers have the necessary resources to meet the growing nutritional needs of our people and protect our island’s food security for generations to come.”

“The long-term sustainability of our farms is vital to accessing fresh, healthy, locally-produced food for Guam’s families,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “As we focus on our recovery, we trust our farmers to help strengthen our agriculture industry and move us towards greater economic independence by investing in new equipment, essential produce materials, and innovative projects. We encourage all eligible farmers to apply today at investguam.com.”

Applicants must have a current bona fide farmer’s certification from the Guam Department of Agriculture and verify a minimum of $10,000 in commercial sales in 2019, 2020, or 2021. Grant recipients may use awarded funds for the following allowable expenses: farm equipment; replacement; expansion of major farm fixtures; seed, stock, feed, and fertilizer; and innovative projects, including marketing initiatives, on-farm demonstration, and field trials.
