Speaker BJ Cruz has stated that he will not hold a public hearing on two measures aimed at helping the Guam Memorial Hospital and the people of Guam.
Why is Speaker Cruz so afraid of a public hearing? Why doesn’t he want the community’s input on a vital community issue? A public hearing provides a forum for the public to provide their input on legislation – this is a tenet of our democratic process.
Why doesn’t he want to hear the people? He says he feels like a parent. Speaker Cruz, you’re not a parent. And we’re all over the age of 21. You’re an elected leader. We all understand that the democratic process includes the free flow of ideas in a public forum – the formalization of that discussion is a public hearing.
Let’s have a public discussion. Let’s have a public hearing on Bills 141 & 142.
