Hagåtña, Guam – Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio issue the following statements on the passing of GCA President James A. Martinez:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of James A. Martinez, a dedicated leader, mentor, and champion for Guam’s construction industry. His impact on our island’s workforce, infrastructure, and economy is immeasurable. Still, more than that, James was a kind and generous man who believed in lifting others up and creating opportunities for those willing to work hard,” said Governor Leon Guerrero. “For decades, James was the driving force behind the Guam Contractors Association, always thinking ahead, always working to ensure that our construction industry had the talent, resources, and leadership needed to grow.”
“James’ legacy is perhaps best reflected in the people he inspired. Through initiatives like the GCA Trades Academy and the Industry Trade Fair & Expo, he opened doors for aspiring professionals, connecting them with experienced mentors and giving them the tools to succeed. His passion for workforce development transformed lives and strengthened our island’s ability to meet the growing demands of the construction sector,” added Lt. Governor Tenorio. “James was more than just a leader in his field—he was a friend and a mentor to many. He cared deeply about people and our island’s prosperity and ensured that the next generation had the skills and knowledge to continue the work he started.”
