3 regional forums for parents and teachers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 28, 2012

The Governor’s education task force is inviting parents and teachers to share their concerns, complaints, and ideas to change public education for the benefit of students.

Twelve separate forums will occur over two Saturdays, March 3 and March 10. Parents and teachers can choose to participate on either date, or on both dates. Parents will have their own forums. Teachers will have their own forums.

The task force has received input from dozens of residents already. The Governor wants the task force to engage as many residents as possible on ideas for change and improvement.

One concern that came up is that some teachers may feel more comfortable speaking up with their unfiltered opinions if only fellow teachers are present. It is for this reason only teachers will be allowed in the forums for teachers.

Another concern is that some parents may feel more comfortable speaking up if only fellow parents are present. It is for this reason only parents will be allowed in the forums for parents.

The forums for teachers will be facilitated by the trained-teacher mentors from Project HATSA. The forums for parents will be facilitated by non-DOE members of the task force.

Reporters may ask individual participants for their permission to be interviewed, otherwise the task force will respect the wishes of participants to remain anonymous.
