The Guam Department of Labor (DOL) is pleased to announce that a research group has been selected to complete the independent economic impact statement on the minimum wage increase authorized through Public Law 32-178.

The organization was awarded the $45,000 contract today. GDOL anticipates completion of the economic impact statement in 90 days.

“This report responds to the call from our community to look at the minimum wage issue with a balanced and responsible approach,” stated Sam Mabini, acting Guam DOL director.

“We must always look at ways to improve the quality of life for our residents but we have to understand that could affect the employers who are paying for these increases.”

The contract awarded by Guam DOL calls for an assessment of the economic effects of the minimum wage increase in 2015. In addition, Guam DOL is asking for a recommended approach to evaluate the impact of the law on a continuous basis for subsequent mandated wage increases.
