GovGuam workers at Inarajan meeting supportive

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 19, 2012

Inarajan residents who are also GovGuam employees voiced support for a proposed early retirement program at the village meeting held last night at the Mayor’s Office.

The Spending Cuts Task Force is joining the education task force and the Department of Education at the village outreach meetings.

One resident said an early retirement program will help GovGuam employees who are willing to retire a couple years earlier without penalties, and ultimately will prevent GovGuam layoffs.

Layoffs, one GovGuam employee said, affects the lower-paid employees while an early retirement program will cause higher-paid employees to voluntarily leave. It’s a win-win, he said.

GovGuam vehicles
Another resident fully supported the idea of ending the use of most GovGuam official vehicles and auctioning off the excess fleet. He said gas vouchers should work just fine for the use of personal vehicles for official business.

Residents will continue having the opportunity to voice their opinions and ask questions related to the Governor’s fiscal reform and education reform initiatives at the village outreach meetings.
