This morning, Governor Eddie Baza Calvo met with the Honorable John McHugh, the Secretary of the Army.  The two leaders discussed the buildup of forces here on Guam, and the Army’s increasing role in the Pacific region.  They also discussed the possibility of stationing the THAAD defense system permanently on Guam.  Secretary McHugh personally recognized and commemorated the 69th Anniversary of Guam’s liberation from Japanese occupation.  During the Battle of Guam, soldiers from the 77th Infantry Division fought along with the Marine Corps to overthrow Japanese military forces.
