Tenorio Begins Beautification Work
DYA youth work with Lieutenant Governor to give back to the community
Press Update: January 31, 2011
Lieutenant Governor Ray Tenorio worked with Department of Youth Affairs Director Adonis Mendiola and several youth volunteers in the first of many beautification efforts at the East HagÃ¥tña Wall across Alupang Beach Tower.
“I’m preparing to launch a new vision for the Island Wide Beautification Task Force in a few short days but I firmly believe that the work must first start with me.  Working with our youth, who might need a little more attention and inspiration, was a great way to get these projects going and I’m even more excited to work with everyone in our community” Lieutenant Governor Tenorio said.  “Guam is fortunate to have DYA Director Adonis Mendiola who’s not just a great advocate for youth, but leads by example with the same passion for beautification, inspiring our island’s troubled youth to take pride in their island and give back to our people. It’s great to be working with a team who understands the needs of our youth and shares the same vision for a cleaner, safer island.”
Lieutenant Governor Tenorio also asks that “All those who want to become part of improving our island’s beauty are encouraged to contact our office by email or phone. We need volunteers!”
Saturday morning’s clean up event is just the first of many Lieutenant Governor Tenorio will be working on throughout the entire island. The East HagÃ¥tña Wall project, which is an area he has maintained since his service in the Guam Legislature, is being headed by Staff Assistant Mary Macalde.
In addition, Lieutenant Governor Tenorio and members of the Island Wide Beautification Task Force are preparing to fully launch their efforts by mid-February.  All members of the community are invited to join the Island Wide Beautification Task Force through volunteering their time or making donations to the cause.
All interested residents, students, businesses and organizations can contact the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Guam at 475-9380 or email their ideas and concerns to Program Manager Kelly Basilia at kelly.basilia@guam.gov.
