Hagåtña – The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) received $107,112 in grant funding from the US Department of the Interior for the Guam Environmental Public Health Lab aka Mosquito Lab.
In 2012, the Division of Environmental Health (DEH) within DPHSS was awarded a capital improvement project grant from DOI’s Office of Insular Affairs which led to the construction of the Guam Environmental Public Health Laboratory, Guam’s only mosquito lab, in 2016.
“We would like to thank the Office of Insular Affairs for their continued support of the Guam Environmental Public Health Laboratory, which was built to conduct surveillance of mosquitoes to protect the people of Guam, and our regional neighbors, from mosquito-borne diseases, such as Dengue Fever, Zika Virus, and malaria,” said Chief Environmental Public Health Officer M. Thomas “Tom” Nadeau.
